Present in the East Atlantic from the Norwegian Sea and Iceland to West Africa, including the Western Mediterranean and off-lying islands.
Bathydemersal species found at depths of 25-1250 m where it inhabits sandy and muddy bottoms. It feeds on crustaceans, small fish and cephalopods.
Mainly caught by demersal and mid-water trawl, longlines and handlines fisheries.
