Found in the North-east Atlantic from the Barents Sea to North-west Africa through the western coasts of the British Islands. Also in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
Demersal species found at depths between 150-1000 m. It usually inhabits muddy bottoms and its diet predominately consists of crustaceans and fish.
Mainly landed by fisheries using trawls, longlines, and gillnets.
