Present in the North-east Atlantic ranging from Norway to West Africa, including off-lying islands. Also present in the Mediterranean and Black Seas.
Benthic species inhabiting rocky and sandy bottoms, commonly found at depths down to 500 m. It feeds on a wide variety of fish, crustaceans and cephalopods.
Captured usually with bottom trawls, hooks and lines gears.
