Found in the North-east Atlantic, from Northern Norway and southwards to North-west Africa. Also found along the northern coasts of the Mediterranean Sea.
Benthic species that inhabits sand, gravel and rocky bottoms at depths of 5 m to down to 100 m. Active predator which feeds on crustaceans and molluscs.
Landings mostly from bottom trawl and trap fisheries.
