Found in the North-east Atlantic from the Barents Sea and Iceland, and southwards to the Iberian Peninsula. Also found in areas of the Mediterranean and Black Sea.
Deep-water demersal species mainly present on rocky bottoms of depths ranging from 100 to 1000 m. It feeds on fish, crustaceans, cephalopods and echinoderms.
Mainly caught by longline, bottom trawl, gillnet and handline fisheries.
