Distributed in the East Atlantic from Norway to the west coast of Africa, including off-lying islands. Also present in the Mediterranean Sea.
Found partly buried in sand and gravel substrata. It is most commonly found from the low intertidal region down to depths of about 100 m. They are filter feeding species.
Caught mainly in fisheries using bottom gears such as dredges.
